We need your help, Team.

Over the past week, the world has watched in horror as Vladimir Putin has ordered Russia’s unprovoked illegal invasion of Ukraine. I wanted to share with you this brief update on what I am doing to support the people and government of Ukraine as they defend against this act of aggression.

In the days before the invasion, I was in Europe meeting with parliamentarians and other counterparts from our NATO allies. Even then, it was clear the United States and the world would need to be resolute and unified in standing up to Putin. And I am pleased to see that we have been.

Reaction to the invasion of Ukraine has been swift and decisive. The global community is moving as one against Russia. The sanctions and other measures put in place have imposed serious costs on the Russian government and economy, and they have sent a message that America and its European allies stand united with Ukraine.

We also know that modern warfare is not restricted only to the battlefield. Russia has a long history of information warfare and cyberattacks against the United States and our allies. Last week I sent a letter to the CEOs of major technology companies urging them to take every possible measure to prevent the spread of Russian misinformation and propaganda online. YouTube, Google, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and so many more have begun to heed the call and are taking measures to ensure only the truth of this war is seen.

It is also imperative that the United States and its allies protect against possible cyber attacks from Russia. Such attacks have thankfully been limited thus far, but we know Russia has the capacity to do more, and a major cyber attack could further escalate this crisis. I’m working hard in the Senate to spearhead conversations that will provide clarity on how we respond to such actions.

Team, as this crisis continues to unfold in the coming weeks and months more is likely to be needed from all of us. I will be sure to keep you updated on what my office is doing, and how you may be able to help. We will continue to stand with our partners and friends in Ukraine in the fight for the cause of democracy.

Thank you,

Mark Warner
