Dear Friends,
I'm thrilled to announce that over 8,000 people joined us for our latest telephone town hall. We discussed everything from the USMCA to our veterans and more. I always appreciate your thoughtful questions, and I'm proud to represent such a civic-minded community here in Congress. To continue the conversation, we're hosting our 13th town hall. I hope to see you there!

With everything going on in our community and around the country, I want to be sure you see the work my office is doing. Here are two quick highlights:

The spotted lanternfly is an invasive planthopper that was first detected in our community in 2014 and presents a threat to our agricultural industry as it feeds on a variety of plants and crops, including grapevines, hardwoods, and ornamentals. That's why I visited Penn State Berks Campus, which is leading the effort on researching how to better combat the spread of spotted lanternflies and to protect Pennsylvania's diverse agricultural industry. At the federal level, I've led the effort to preserve funding for grants aimed at researching methods to control and eventually eradicate this invasive pest. I’m honored to be joined in this effort by so many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle – 8 Republicans and 6 Democrats, all from Pennsylvania. Together, we sent a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, in which we outlined the necessary funding to continue our efforts to protect our crops from the spotted lanternfly. I was fortunate enough to host Secretary Purdue in May at Phillips Mushroom Farms in Kennett Square. He understands the needs of our community and how important this funding is. I look forward to continuing to work with my fellow Pennsylvanians in Congress to continue this fight for our region’s farmers. We are all committed to putting the people of this Commonwealth first. |

Recently, I embarked on a bipartisan congressional delegation to Afghanistan and the Syrian-Jordanian border to learn about our efforts in the region to protect our national security and build a safer world for all. I visited the Azraq Refugee Camp, where I witnessed firsthand the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and other international organizations serving the needs of Syrian refugees in Jordan. Our investments in diplomacy and peace-building mean a stronger national security for the United States and a more peaceful international community. In Congress, I introduced the Support UNFPA Funding Act, which reauthorizes funding for the UNFPA and restores our commitment to a more equal, and consequently stabler world. The bill has over 100 cosponsors, and I look forward to working with the Administration on this critical issue to protect women and girls everywhere.
