[1]Cori Bush

John, last night,
President Biden addressed our nation in the first State of the Union of
his presidency.

Millions of us voted, organized, and made our voices heard in 2020 —
despite Trump's unconstitutional attempts to silence us — to make that
moment possible.

But it's clear that there's still a lot of work ahead of us to continue
making progress, repair our democracy, and make sure Democrats deliver on
the promises they made to voters. So today we want to talk about some of
the topics that President Biden wasn't able to address last night that
urgently demand our government's attention.

[ [link removed] ]When you're done reading this email we hope you'll chip in
$5 today to re-elect Cori in November so she can continue
pushing for bold, progressive legislation in Congress and urging the Biden
administration to center the needs of Black, brown, and working folks in
America.

We want to recognize what President Biden did not talk about last night.

President Biden did not commit to canceling student debt for the millions
of people who suffer as a result of predatory loans that
disproportionately target Black and brown students.

President Biden did not call for an immediate end to the Jim Crow
filibuster in the Senate so that we can finally pass crucial voting rights
protections.

President Biden did not offer support for our movement to defund the
police in order to save Black lives and livelihoods. Instead he stated,
"The answer is to FUND the police with the resources and training they
need to protect our communities."

President Biden did not discuss the 18,000 people whose clemency petitions
are sitting in a backlog waiting for presidential review. That's why
Cori's State of the Union fit was dedicated to urging Biden to start
granting clemency now:

Cori will continue to advocate in Congress for the change our communities
need — from the Green New Deal for Cities to the People's Response Act.
[ [link removed] ]Will you chip in $5 or more today to keep Cori in
Congress legislating and organizing for progressive change? We are just
getting started.

Together,

Team Cori
