John,
Last night, Jessica Cisneros advanced to the next stage of the fight against anti-choice corporate Democrat Henry Cuellar. Because no one cleared the 50% threshold, Jessica and Cuellar will face off for a third time — in a runoff election on May 24.
We are so proud to have backed Jessica from the very beginning, back in 2019 when she decided to run for Congress. We’ve been by her side every step of the way while, for years, South Texans have been demanding change. Now, Jessica is ready to win the runoff against Cuellar.
Cuellar is the only anti-abortion Democrat left in the U.S. House. He takes millions in campaign contributions from Big Oil, private prisons, GOP mega-donors, corporate defense contractors, and anti-choice dark money groups. Defeating Cuellar would mean defeating all of these corporate special interests and the 17-year incumbent’s conservative politics with a vision of Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, canceling student debt, and so much more.
We know Cuellar has plenty of deep-pocketed corporate donors, but Jessica needs to quickly fundraise for an expensive sprint to the May 24 runoff. It’s like we’re running a whole primary all over again.
Thank you for being a part of this movement and keeping our work going.
In solidarity,
Alexandra Rojas, Executive Director
