July 9, 2019: In April, the United States produced 12.16 million barrels of oil per day. That makes our country the world’s largest producer of crude oil. About 41% of that oil—nearly 5 million barrels per day—comes from Texas.[1]
While producing just over 12 million barrels of oil per day, the U.S. consumes just over 9 million barrels per day.
Fracking technology enabled the United States to become the world’s largest producer of oil and to generate more oil than we use.
