The Emergency Heat Relief Package, led by Verde and the Community Alliance of Tenants, has been combined into one bill--SB 1536-B--and it just passed the Senate! Tell your state representative to vote yes when it goes to a house vote!

Last summer’s heat wave resulted in nearly 100 deaths in Oregon alone. Many people didn’t have access to air conditioning or cooling centers, and weren’t able to escape the soaring temperatures, making the heatwave not just inconvenient, but dangerous, and ultimately deadly. Heat waves are growing more common as the climate crisis progresses. We need to take a stand and make sure that everyone has a place to go when the weather goes to extremes. 

SB 1536-B, the ‘Emergency Heat Relief for Renters’ bill, would do this by making it easier for renters to install cooling technologies (like air conditioners), creating new cooling centers in the community, and helping landlords install heat and cooling pumps in their buildings.

SB 1536-B will help community members, friends, and neighbors survive the next heat wave. Please take action today!
