Friend, We invite you to join us on Wednesday, March 9, for a virtual briefing to mark the release of the Year in Hate & Extremism 2021 – the latest edition of our annual report tracking hate across the nation. This 90-minute livestreamed event will feature two separate panel discussions. Susan Corke, director of the SPLC’s Intelligence Project, will lead a discussion on the research analysis that goes into our annual Year in Hate report, and Lecia Brooks, SPLC chief of staff and culture, will moderate a conversation on community resilience. The Year in Hate & Extremism 2021 The event will also include a Q&A session and a recorded conversation with Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.) and SPLC President and CEO Margaret Huang about today’s climate of hate and extremism in the U.S. We’ll also take a deep dive into policy related to hate and extremism with SPLC Chief Policy Director LaShawn Warren as she speaks with members of Congress. The SPLC has published the Year in Hate & Extremism, an annual census and analysis of hate groups and extremist organizations, each year since 1990. We define a hate group as an organization that – based on its official statements or principles, the statements of its leaders, or its activities – has beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics. The FBI uses similar criteria in its definition of a hate crime. We hope you can join us on March 9 for these important and timely discussions. Don’t forget to click here to RSVP! In solidarity, Your friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center
