John,
The truth is, if the Senate would send all of the bills the House has passed in the last year to President Biden's desk, our country would be in our strongest position in decades.
We would have enacted the For the People Act. And we would have federal law to protect voting rights, clean up our elections, and fix the corrupt system of campaign finance created by Citizens United.
We would have statutory protections for LGBTQ+ Americans from the Equality Act, which protects their civil rights and has the support of 7 out of 10 voters.
We would have the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, to curtail police brutality, ensure transparency and accountability in policing, and create a better culture between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
We would have a federal law protecting the constitutional right to an abortion with the Women’s Health Protection Act, to uphold reproductive rights and codify Roe v. Wade into law.
We would have taken immediate action to stop another president from abusing the office as Trump did, with my Protecting Our Democracy Act, and taken important action to prevent executive power grabs after four years of Donald Trump.
And we would have historic investments in child care, Medicaid and Medicare expansion, universal pre-k, hundreds of billions of dollars in clean energy, and so much more in Build Back Better.
But right now, we don’t have that. Why? Because of Mitch McConnell, the filibuster, and cowardice. And yes, I’m talking about a couple of Senate Democrats, too.
All of this legislation and more continues to languish in the Senate, with the filibuster standing in the way of our 50-seat Senate majority. John, if President Biden was able to sign all of the legislation passed by the House, our country would be in the strongest position in decades.
The Senate obviously needs to do more — abolishing the filibuster is just a start. But that isn’t my point. My point is, the House has done incredible work in the last year, passing dozens of highly popular bills that the American people demanded in 2020. And losing our majority would represent a serious setback to getting these things done. But expanding our majorities in the House and Senate will make all of these bills the law of the land.
Right now, I’m asking for your help with my re-election so we can keep our House and Senate majorities, and expand them, so we can enact the legislation the American people demand — can you pitch in $10 right now?
