Hey John, last night we just scored some wins in Texas! But the toughest challenge for these candidates will be ahead – and we can’t afford to lose any time preparing for our next races coming up in May.
Last night showed a glimmer of what is possible if we keep working together: Both Joe Gonzales (Bexar County DA) and John Creuzot (Dallas County DA), won their primaries and are advancing to the general elections in November!
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who chipped in, organized, and talked to their friends and families.
Real Justice threw down in a MASSIVE way to help Joe and John win their elections in 2018. We spent over $500,000 to push them to victory back then. They’ve already achieved things like: refusing to prosecute Black and brown folks on low level offenses, dismissing cases of marijuana possession, decreasing jail populations, and taking a stand against Governor Greg Abbott’s move to criminalize trans kids.
I am so glad that we are helping them build on their amazing work now by helping them to get re-elected.
But to take this momentum ALL over America, we need to drastically build up our internal resources. Real Justice is already eyeing 9 more races coming up FAST where we want to support more candidates like Joe and John!
In the races where we have lost, the amount of resources we were able to raise, contribute directly, or staff time devoted to coaching the campaigns made an impact, but ultimately it was not enough. Winning against an incumbent is especially difficult, and it takes more resources than we were able to give.
Let’s learn from our lessons and build this movement, district by district, everywhere.
Our next races are coming up in May, so there’s not much time.
Together,
Taylor Jones
