Hi John – In last night’s State of the Union Address, President Biden reflected on all the challenges we’ve endured this past year – and all the efforts we’ve made to recover. It’s true that we’ve made great strides in helping children and families rebuild from the pandemic, but there’s still so much work to be done. Struggling child care and preschool providers can’t afford to offer their employees competitive wages. The result? Widespread staffing shortages, closed classrooms, disruptions in quality and longer waiting lists for kids and families who rely on their programs. These financial burdens extend to families, too. The average cost of child care for just one child in the U.S. exceeds $10,000 per year, an unattainable expense for most families. John, our child care system needs sustainable solutions, not temporary fixes. Send a message to President Biden and your members of Congress: we must continue to fight for substantial, long-term investments in child care and pre-K. Emergency funding has been critical in stabilizing this crisis in the midst of the pandemic – but this relief has only helped a struggling system survive. Without access to affordable, high-quality care, parents aren't able to return to the workforce to support their families – and without valuable early learning opportunities, millions of children are missing out on their best chance at a bright future. When child care and early learning programs have the resources they need to thrive, children, families and our economy follow suit. Urge President Biden and Congress to support our nation’s economic security and our children’s futures with investments in child care! Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
