John, the results from yesterday's Texas primary are officially in.
First, Greg Casar held a strong win in Texas’ 35th District for the Democratic nomination. Jamaal was the first sitting member of the House to endorse Greg back in December, and this team has rallied behind him since. And last night, we all succeeded.
Greg's win is proof that our coalition is expanding — and we couldn't be more excited to be one step closer to having yet another progressive lawmaker in the House.
But now, John, our work isn't yet finished. Jess Cisneros was not able to secure the Democratic nomination over Henry Cuellar — yet. The race was close enough to trigger a runoff, which is now happening in May. Just look at how close the results were:
Jess has a real chance at representing Texas’ 28th District in the House — and voters have an opportunity to finally oust Henry Cuellar, who's one of the most conservative Democrats in Congress.
Cuellar not only has strong ties to anti-choice organizations and ultra wealthy Republican donors, he's also been investigated by the FBI for pushing Azerbaijani business interests in Congress. He's even spent $2 million trying to fend off Jess and our movement.
But last night, we showed him that our movement is stronger than ever. This race isn't for his taking — and we're ready to oust him for someone who will actually fight for the people in Congress.
Jamaal was the first sitting member of the House to endorse Jessica Cisneros back in December because he knew how important it was to grow the Squad and champion progressive change. Jess is a critical addition to our coalition in Congress, which is why we'll ask one more time:
Thank you,
Team Bowman
