JUST RELEASED: LCV’S 2021 NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL SCORECARD >> [[link removed]]
Hi —
Over the past 50 years, our partners at League of Conservation Voters (LCV) have published the National Environmental Scorecard annually to track the environmental voting records of members of Congress. Until now, they had never felt it necessary to score the basic votes that uphold our country’s peaceful transfer of power and electoral outcomes.
But 2021 was different. It brought heightened attacks on the foundation of our democracy and underscored the continued need to reckon with systemic racism, both of which are inextricably linked with the devastating impacts and costs of the climate crisis.
Following the violent January 6 insurrection and subsequent attacks by Republican members of Congress on the fundamental tenets of our country’s governance, LCV scored votes on democracy and voting rights, in addition to environmental issues in both chambers in its 2021 LCV National Environmental Scorecard.
The Scorecard shines a light on elected leaders’ policy positions and empowers constituents to hold their representatives accountable for issues that people care about most, including clean air and clean water, climate change, environmental justice, voting rights, racial justice, and democracy.

Holding elected leaders accountable to the people is core to a functioning democracy. That's why we invite you to dive into LCV’s 2021 National Environmental Scorecard — to learn how your members of Congress voted on issues that impact your family, your community, and our country.
The 2021 Scorecard includes 22 House votes, half of which were justice- and democracy-related votes, including vitally important voting rights bills. The Scorecard also includes 34 Senate votes, six of which center on justice and democracy issues, reflecting the need to safeguard the fundamentals of our governance from an alarming number of attacks on voting rights, which disproportionately impact people of color.
We were so excited to see that Representatives Boyle, Evans, Dean, Scanlon, Houlahan, Wild, Cartwright, Lamb, and Doyle all earned perfect 100 scores by leading the fight to ensure that Pennsylvanians’ health and environment were put first in Congress.
To make sure that leaders from Pennsylvania continue to fight for our environment, it’s critical that we know how they voted on our behalf in the highest levels of government. As we look ahead to 2022, we must also hold the pro-environment, pro-democracy trifecta of federal leadership — President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, and Leader Schumer — accountable for their commitments to pass legislation that will ensure a healthier, safer, more equitable climate and democracy for all.
