Dear John,
Our partners at the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) just released the 2021 National Environmental Scorecard and we’re excited to share the Maine scores with you. 2021 was an unprecedented year. We endured heightened federal attacks on the foundation of our democracy and here in Maine we continued to face the staggering costs of climate change, the losses from an ongoing global pandemic, and a reckoning with systemic racism.
The 2021 National Environmental Scorecard contains a historically high percentage of votes related to justice and democracy in both chambers to reflect these intersecting challenges.
We are delighted to report that Sen. Angus King and Rep. Chellie Pingree both scored 100%! We applaud them for their pro-environment and pro-democracy leadership and unwavering commitment to tackling the climate crisis.
Rep. Golden’s admirable 91% score is encouraging news for the future of our climate and democracy. However, we remain disappointed that he voted against the administration’s transformational climate, justice, and jobs legislation last fall. We hope he reconsiders when the package returns to the House.
We are disappointed that Sen. Collins scored a 56% . Her score reflects many votes in opposition to climate action, environmental justice, and the health of our democracy.
Knowing exactly what politicians do in Washington is core to a functioning democracy. That’s why we invite you to dig into the 2021 National Environmental Scorecard — and learn more about the votes Maine’s members of Congress took on key issues that impact our families, our communities, and our democracy.

Stay tuned for ways to take action to hold our federal delegation accountable this year!
Thank you,
