Black History Month is an important time to reflect on the complex and varied experience that is being Black in the United States. Voto Latino honors Black leaders who have made our country more equitable and just for all, and we also celebrate our Afro-Latino familia, whose unique perspectives have shaped our culture.

Nearly a quarter of U.S. Latinos identify as Afro-Latino, Afro-Caribbean, or of African descent with roots in Latin America. Afro-Latinos are inseparable from the American story, and we strongly believe that Afro-Latino issues are American issues and American issues are Afro-Latino issues.

Black History Month may be over, but we invite you to continue exploring the experiences of Black and Afro-Latinos now, next month, and all year round:
