Indivisibles,
This is a first. From our kitchen table beginnings as former congressional
staffers writing a guide on how to reclaim democracy to growing into a
nationwide movement of Indivisibles speaking up and sparking change, we’ve
never covered the State of the Union -- why cover a liar who will then lie
about lying?
It’s a new day!
Tonight, at 9pm EST, President Biden will deliver his first State of the
Union address and [ [link removed] ]we will be live tweeting coverage as it progresses.
Here are the topics we’re expecting him to address:
* An update on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. President Biden has
delivered a skillfully diplomatic response so far, helping to enact
historic sanctions across a broad coalition while avoiding a ground
operation or fanning the flames of war. We look forward to an update
on where we stand today, how we can continue to be a leader in the
fight against global authoritarianism, and we hope to hear more about
how we will extend aid to displaced peoples throughout this
humanitarian crisis. [ [link removed] ](You can click here to read more detail on our
response to the Russian invasion.)
* A continued commitment to democracy reform. Upon entering office,
President Biden immediately took steps to ensure a fair and just
democracy throughout our country. As we now know, the critical core of
those reforms were blocked by the full coalition of Republican
senators with the assistance of two defecting Democrats. Biden must
not be deterred and remain committed to expanding the right to vote,
stopping money in politics, and ensuring free and fair elections.
* A focus on keeping healthcare accessible. On day one of his
administration, President Biden reversed many of the harmful policies
enacted by the Trump administration to weaken the Affordable Care Act
and imperil healthcare for millions of Americans. This was both
morally right and critically necessary while we were still deep in the
throes of a global pandemic ravaging the world. With Omicron waning
across most of the country, we hope that President Biden will continue
along this path -- every American deserves access to affordable
healthcare and fair prescription drug pricing while the world needs
immediate access to equitable COVID vaccines and testing. We hope to
see President Biden commit to a strategy of implementing executive
actions ensuring more equitable access to healthcare for all.

could achieve.)
* A proactive directive on climate. Revoking the permit for the Keystone
XL pipeline and re-joining the Paris Agreement were key initial steps
in righting our country’s path on climate following the Trump
Administration retrograde policies. We hope to see President Biden
continue along that path through a stronger commitment to clean
energy, which would create millions of jobs while working to leave a
healthy and habitable planet for future generations. [ [link removed] ](We need to
declare a national climate emergency now.)
* A demand for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to be seated as soon as
possible. We have seen the conservative playbook on nominations over
the past two administrations. They will do anything to ensure liberal
justices never reach the bench. Not only is Judge Jackson eminently
qualified, it is fully within the rights of our president and our
Senate to confirm her as the choice. Biden must do everything he can
to make certain Judge Jackson is confirmed as quickly as possible so
that this historic nomination may move our highest court towards being
more reflective of our population and so that our court does not take
one more step towards conservative control for generations to come.

Join us in watching our first State of the Union as we continue to support
our representatives in their commitment to a progressive vision for this
country and the world.
In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
