In several countries around the world, the Liberal Party is actually that—liberal in the best sense of the word. They agree people should live free from government interference, intrusion, and overreach in their lives.
For instance, the UK’s Liberal Party ([link removed]) “ . . . exists to create a liberal society, in which every citizen shall possess liberty, property and security, and none shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. Its chief care is for the rights and opportunities of the individual, and in all spheres it sets freedom first.” In Australia, the Liberal Party ([link removed]) stands for, “ . . . the inalienable rights and freedoms of all peoples; . . . a lean government that minimises interference in our daily lives; and maximises individual and private sector initiative. . . . In those most basic freedoms of parliamentary democracy—the freedom of thought, worship, speech and association. . . .”
