Dear John,

When the right-wing attacked our campaign because I’m running as a loud and proud single woman, they decided to drag Gloria Steinem into their attack.

The disrespect for the work of Gloria Steinem and her colleagues is abundantly clear, but the messenger does have a point. Fifty years later, my relationship status shouldn’t be shocking, working as a stripper shouldn’t be breaking every headline, and our fight for reproductive rights and equal pay should be over and won.

But that isn’t the case. On top of that, femicide is the 5^th leading cause of death in women and the 4^th leading cause of death in girls aged one to 19. Sex workers are overrepresented in these statistics as well as women of color.

There is still a lot of work to be done.

Which is why I am honored to receive the endorsement of Gloria Steinem and to have met with her this past weekend. She is an inspiration of relentless advocacy for intersectional feminism and the rights of all women, even at the age of 87. She won’t be joining our campaign at any events, but I am very grateful to receive her support and to be part of the next generation of fierce advocates to fight for the change that is taking too long to get here and is desperately needed.

Our fight must continue for all of our sisters who are not here to march beside us due to injustices and cruelty like femicide, sexual violence, inequity, and systemic neglect. Happy Women’s History Month, I am so grateful to everyone who marched so a woman like me could run (for office).
