Fatherly

The country is starting to act like the pandemic is over. Mask mandates are dropping everywhere, flights are filling up, people are gathering and celebrating — warily, with one eye looking over their shoulder. On one hand, this is a logical reaction to transmission rates plummeting across the nation and a healthy vaccinated population growing. On the other, it’s a great big leap of faith. After all, the vaccine for 5-11 has been found to be pretty ineffective, the vaccine for kids under 5 is not here at all, and we just don’t know what the next few months will bring — hopefully nothing like the last few. One thing is sure, bone-tired parents can’t escape the doubt. Doubt after all is damn useful to parents. You’re a human who is tasked with caring for other humans and second guessing yourself is an essential part of it. Just give yourself a break. That’s essential too.
