WOBURN -- Massachusetts Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons issued the following statement Tuesday morning regarding the candidacy of Buzzards Bay attorney Jay McMahon for Massachusetts attorney general:
“The Massachusetts Republican Party is pleased that a Republican has stepped up to offer Massachusetts voters an alternative to the Democrats’, and in particular, Attorney General Maura Healey’s, record of politicizing the office of the AG. Jay McMahon is committed to upholding the rule of law and removing politics from the agenda of the state’s top law enforcement officer.
“Jay opposes the Democrats' efforts to 'defund the police' and stands unequivocally for the rule of law and in support of our brave men and women serving in law enforcement.”
Regarding media inquiries questioning MassGOP’s initial assist of the McMahon campaign launch:
“Jay McMahon is the first Republican to announce a campaign for the office of attorney general. The Massachusetts Republican Party stands committed to electing Republicans and helping them in any way it can.”
