Dear John,

My name is Alaq Al-Muwali. I recently joined Health Poverty Action to work on our new Vaccine Justice campaign. [[link removed]]

As we approach the two-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic, people continue to die from the disease on a daily basis. Whilst everyone has been touched by the devastating impact of the pandemic, the death count in the Majority World may be twenty times higher than official records.

Funded by taxpayers’ money, the development of COVID-19 vaccines is one of the greatest breakthroughs in humanity’s history. Yet in some countries of the Majority World, 9 out of 10 people remain unvaccinated.

Despite there being over 100 manufacturers who could make the vaccines in the countries that need them, current trade policy means that pharmaceutical companies are able to hoard the science, technology and know-how to do this.

Whilst governments and campaigners across the world are calling for a waiver of intellectual property rights so that countries across the world can produce their own vaccines, the EU, Switzerland and the [[link removed]] UK are blocking this, threatening the lives of people across the globe. Health Poverty Action will be joining allies this Friday March 4 at 10-30 am in central London for a stunt to tell the UK Government to stop blocking the waiver.

We’d love you to join us!

We are looking for London-based supporters to attend and hold placards, collect images, help us create a video and hand in petitions to Downing Street. We will hold a briefing in advance so you know exactly what to expect.

If you are not based in London you can still support us on social media [[link removed]], by following us and retweeting our demands.

Please let me know at [email protected] if you would like to join us on Friday and I will make sure you get all the information you need. And please watch this space for further ways to get involved as we develop our campaign for vaccine justice.

Thanks for your ongoing support.

In solidarity,

Alaq Al-Muwali

Policy and Campaigns Officer
