Date: Friday, November 15, 2019To: Friends & SupportersFrom: Gary L. Bauer, Director Israel's Fight To ExistIsrael's conflict with Islamic Jihad this week highlighted once again the daily struggle the Jewish state faces. No other nation on earth is regularly threatened with annihilation. But Israel is surrounded by enemies committed to its destruction -- Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which now operates bases in Syria and Iraq. These forces are daily threatening the safety of innocent Israelis. They are committing terrorist acts, stabbing civilians, firing rockets at Israeli cities, digging terror tunnels undermining Israel's security. I suspect it is impossible for most Americans to comprehend how average Israelis feel when confronted with these threats day after day after day.Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Avi Dichter was interviewed by the Jerusalem Post ( [link removed](?x-mi:(?%3C=href=)[%5Cs]*[ ) this week about Israel's campaign against Islamic Jihad and its daily fight to exist. Below are some excerpts of his remarks."Israel's political and military leadership need to decide at a certain point to launch a campaign that will destroy the terrorist infrastructure in Gaza. That won't take a week or a month. That will be a long time. . . "We judge an operation based on the goals at the start. Ours were clear. The first was to kill al-Ata, an arch-terrorist. . . Al-Ata planned rocket attacks and all the attempts to prevent them didn't succeed, so we had to take them out. We had to make sure PIJ would understand that they can't shoot at Israel whenever they want. . ."We finished this round with zero killed and very few lightly injured. . . but when you look at the expectations of the other side, what PIJ wanted, they wanted blood and death here in Israel. They shot over 400 rockets to kill Israelis. . ."Sometimes the threat is in the south, sometimes it is in Judea and Samaria, sometimes there are rockets, sometimes there are suicide bombers. We live in an area with a variety of threats in different places each time. . . "We can't fool ourselves and say after a two-day round, that's the end of it, Gaza will be peaceful for 40 years. We can't say that to the residents."Progressive Anti-SemitismChristians United for Israel and CUFI Action Fund are committed to fighting the ancient evil of anti-Semitism wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head. Sadly, it is a growing problem throughout the world today. For example, earlier this month, a neo-Nazi was arrested ( [link removed](?x-mi:(?%3C=href=)[%5Cs]*[ ) for plotting to bomb a Colorado synagogue. But anti-Semitism spans the ideological spectrum. As we noted in yesterday's report, the left-wing British Labour Party is currently embroiled in a major anti-Semitism scandal. And here in the United States, there is growing anti-Semitism on the political left and especially on our college campuses.Yesterday's New York Times ( [link removed] ) featured a chilling column by a progressive Jewish student at George Washington University. Below are some excerpts of his column:"At many American universities, mine included, it is now normal for student organizations to freely call Israel an imperialist power and an outpost of white colonialism with little pushback or discussion. . . The word 'apartheid' is thrown around without hesitation. "The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is repeatedly dragged into discussions ranging anywhere from L.G.B.T.Q. equality . . . to health care to criminal justice reform. . . "This is our new normal. On college campuses and in progressive circles across the country . . . if you are a Zionist, you are seen as the enemy. . . It does not matter if you believe in the right of self-determination for all people, including Palestinians; if you still feel a connection to the State of Israel as a homeland for the Jewish people, you are on the wrong side of history."While white supremacists plot to murder Jews across this country, 'anti-Zionists' on college campuses seek to marginalize us as white supremacists. . . "If you call yourself a Zionist because your family fled to Israel from a Middle Eastern country as a means of survival, you are complicit in ethnic cleansing. If you call yourself a Zionist because your family fled Germany to escape a concentration camp, you are a colonialist. If you call yourself a Zionist because your family made aliyah to Israel because of their religious or spiritual beliefs, you are complicit in apartheid."Anti-Semitism is real, and there are those in this country who also reject Israel's right to exist. Christians United for Israel, CUFI Action Fund and CUFI on Campus are fighting every day to stop anti-Semitism, defend the Jewish state and strengthen the U.S.-Israel alliance!Christians United for Israel Action Fund is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization, donations are not tax deductible for federal income tax purposes.
