Coloradan youth petitioners and climate strikers last Friday.

Dear friends,

We’ve had a big couple of weeks.

Last Friday, 65 young Coloradans filed a petition for rulemaking calling on the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) to enact new, science-based rules that are consistent with protecting Coloradans’ public health, safety, welfare, and the environment from oil and gas development and climate change. This effort is a continuation of the campaign started with the youth climate lawsuit Martinez v. COGCC, and comes after Colorado Governor Polis signed SB 19-181 in April, a bill which states that the COGCC must prioritize protections for public health and the environment over oil and gas development.

On Wednesday, oral arguments in Chernaik v. Brown, the youth climate lawsuit against the State of Oregon, were heard before the Oregon Supreme Court. The hearing took place at David Douglas High School in Portland, Oregon, with more than 320 students in attendance. The youth plaintiffs, represented by Courtney Johnson from Portland's Crag Law Center, are looking to the Court to overturn the appellate court decision and protect their futures as Oregonians. Thank you, as always, for your unrelenting support of the young people who are rising up to hold their governments accountable.

We could not do this work without you.
