Criminal Victimization, 2020 ? Supplemental Statistical Tables

This report provides supplemental statistical tables to Criminal Victimization, 2020, which was published in October 2021 as the 48th report in a series that began in 1973. This report presents official estimates of criminal victimizations reported and not reported to police from BJS?s National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). It includes statistics on nonfatal violent (rape or sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault) and property crimes (burglary or trespassing, motor vehicle theft, and other types of household theft). It is the first release of the 2020 violent and property crime prevalence estimates and includes additional 2020 victimization and incident estimates that were not included in the Criminal Victimization, 2020 report.

The Nation?s Two Crime Measures, 2011?2020

This report presents statistics from BJS?s National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) and the FBI?s Uniform Crime Reporting Program Summary Reporting System (UCR SRS), both of which measure the magnitude, nature, and impact of crime in the nation. The NCVS was established in 1973 to complement the UCR SRS and measure crimes not reported to police. The NCVS and UCR SRS have different purposes, use different methods, and focus on different aspects of crime. The information they produce together provides a comprehensive understanding of crime in the United States.

Stalking Victimization, 2019

This report provides data on U.S. residents age 16 or older who were victims of stalking in 2019 and the types of stalking behaviors they experienced. It details the demographic characteristics of victims who were stalked, including traditional stalking and stalking with technology, during a 12-month period. It also describes the characteristics of stalking victimization, including the victim-offender relationship, self-protective actions taken by the victim, patterns of reporting to police, and whether the victim contacted a victim service provider after the victimization.

National Crime Victimization Survey: Supplemental Victimization Survey, 2019

The National Crime Victimization Survey?s (NCVS) Supplemental Victimization Survey (SVS) asks persons age 16 or older about their experiences with stalking during the preceding 12 months and collects information on the demographic characteristics of stalking victims.

BJS 60-day notice

Public comments requested on the proposed BJS data collection: National Pretrial Reporting Program (NPRP)

BJS encourages comments for 60 days through April 18, 2022, on the proposed collection: National Pretrial Reporting Program (NPRP). Through the NPRP, BJS will collect data on the processing of felony cases from filing through case disposition. This effort will collect information from jails, pretrial service agencies, and general jurisdiction courts by requesting data extracts associated with felony filings from case management systems. BJS plans to collect data from a nationally representative sample of 125 of the largest 200 counties in the United States.
