As Ingham County Prosecutor, I prioritized rehabilitation programs for nonviolent, first-time offenders to save resources, reduce overcrowding in prisons, and most importantly, to give people a second chance.

When we divert minors from correctional systems and focus on evidence-based assessment programs and community-based treatment, we do just that -- give kids a second chance.

Raising the age for which we try teenagers as adults reduces recidivism rates -- meaning we are improving the safety of minors in the system, using taxpayer dollars more effectively, and putting rehabilitation at the forefront of our juvenile justice system.
