President Biden recently chose Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to replace Justice Breyer on the Supreme Court, fulfilling his historic pledge to choose the first Black woman justice.
Of the 115 Supreme Court justices, 108 have been white men. There has never been a Black woman.
Judge Jackson won bi-partisan support for her appointment to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, the second-highest court below the Supreme Court. Before that, she served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for eight and a half years. Judge Jackson has been confirmed three times by the Senate - twice unanimously - and has written over 600 opinions.
Earlier in her career, Judge Jackson distinguished herself as a public defender, advocating for working people and people of color up against a justice system designed for the wealthy. She was also vice chair of the Sentencing Commission, where she worked to shape criminal justice policy and reduce sentences for individuals incarcerated for drug offenses.
As the Supreme Court is poised to imminently overturn Roe v. Wade, despite the vast majority of Americans supporting the right to abortion care, we need the Senate to do everything possible to confirm Judge Jackson immediately.
Join us in demanding that the Senate swiftly confirm President Biden?s pick for Supreme Court Justice.
