Good morning –
Polls will be opening around the state for the Primary Election, so for a change of pace the One Click Survey is asking about Texas Independence.
Here is the Texas Minute for Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
– Michael Quinn Sullivan
But first… Texas Eagle Forum updated their list of 2022 endorsements, which was not reflected in yesterday’s [[link removed]] Texas Minute. You can find Texas Eagle Forum’s complete and revised endorsement list on their website [[link removed]].
Speaking Of Endorsements The most important endorsement is the endorsement you make with your vote in the primary election. Polls are open statewide today between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Quote-Unquote I
“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” – John Quincy Adams
TLR Is Funding Their Opposition Established to combat trial lawyers who were making Texas’ business climate unsustainable, Texans for Lawsuit Reform won their issue… and have stuck around to become one of the biggest spenders in Texas elections [[link removed]]. Yet today, TLR’s massive war chest is often spent opposing conservatives, working against Republican issues, and enabling Democrats – all under the guise of being “pro-business” and in support of Austin’s crony political establishment.
For example, in the 2022 GOP primary a candidate of the leftwing Texas Trial Lawyers Association – incumbent State Rep. Reggie Smith of Van Alsytne – is being challenged by businesswoman Shelley Luther who went to jail rather than comply with Gov. Greg Abbott’s orders closing down the state economy. Rather than support the businesswoman, TLR is backing the trial lawyer.
Rather than work against Democrats holding power in the Texas Legislature, TLR celebrates the practice of having Democrat committee chairs. Read more about TLR [[link removed]], their spending, and what it means for Texas conservatives.
Republican lawmakers say it is TLR that calls the shots when GOP priorities are batted away.
By enabling Democrats and crony Republicans to hold sway in the legislative process, it is unlikely TLR is making the way for anything conservative grassroots activists like or want. And since they are funding candidates supported by the liberal trial lawyers, the “lawsuit reform” in their name seems to mean less and less.
All this is why we at Texas Scorecard have long said we don’t want a seat at the table, we want to get rid of the table. The citizens are supposed to be in charge, not run over by backroom special-interest dealmaking.
Abbott Criticized For Not Protecting Children Gubernatorial candidates and others used the last day before the primary to criticize Gov. Greg Abbott for not protecting children from procedures designed to “transition” their gender. Jacob Asmussen has the details [[link removed]].
“I will tell you that I have never been more disappointed in finding out how our legislature works against our kids and the will of our Republican voters than I was this last session,” said Jill Glover, committee chairwoman for the Republican Party of Texas.
“[Republicans] have been running the show for 20 years, yet we can’t pass a bill that outlaws gender mutilation,” said Agricultural Commissioner Sid Miller. “I call it mutilation, they want to use a nice word like modification. No, that’s mutilation.” Rallying Around Educational Rights A Republican-sponsored event yesterday focused on the rights of parents to direct their children’s education. Gov. Greg Abbott did not attend. Sydnie Henry has the story [[link removed]].
Lt. Col. Allen West, one of the three primary Republican challengers to Gov. Abbott, cited Texas’s educational ranking as 46th out of 50 in the nation, and the fact that 67 percent of fourth graders cannot read at grade level.
Another Abbott challenger, former State. Sen. Don Huffines said the biggest pushback against bills that protect children in the Texas legislature is not from Democrats, but “Republicans In Name Only.” He said the recent wave of parental involvement in schools is helping hold elected officials accountable.
Media personality Chad Prather said the current government-controlled system has become far too corrupted. “We need to start over. It’s built on an ideological humanist system, the Dewey-Mann philosophy of education, it leads to socialism.” Florida National Guard Won’t Be In D.C. Tonight “Last week, the Biden Administration requested the assistance of State National Guards to deploy to Washington D.C. I have rejected this request — there will be no @FLGuard sent to D.C. for Biden’s State of the Union.” – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis [[link removed]] A Conversation With Kenny Webster At 10 a.m. today we will premiere [[link removed]] a new episode of the Conversations series [[link removed]]. Join me for a fun chat with conservative radio giant Kenny Webster (and his puppy, Milton Friedman!) about growing up in Illinois, moving to Texas, and his fast-growing show.
Learn how Webster was legally deaf as a child, and why it is important to take your politics with good dose of humor. Yes, you read that right: Kenny Webster went from being a legally deaf kid to a rising major player in talk radio. Quote-Unquote II
“The problem is not that too much money is spent on political campaigns in this country but that too little is. Americans spend more on potato chips than on putting competent leaders in office.”
– Tom DeLay
