Dear John,

As Black History Month comes to a close, I’d like to highlight some Black leaders who have inspired my commitment to service and our campaign's focus on dignity and opportunity for all. You can see the full list of inspiring leaders on our social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter). Consider joining us and sharing the stories of Black leaders who inspire you using #DignityForAll.

Vel Phillips (1924-2018)
Vel Phillips was the Secretary of State in Wisconsin, judge, and an avid activist and thought leader in housing policy practices in Milwaukee, fighting multiple times to have fair housing practices instituted in the city. Her perservance through challenge is more than admirable and reminds us of why we fight. Vel reminded us that legal action necessitates direct action as well. [[link removed]]

John Lewis (1940-2020)
As leader of the SNCC, John Lewis was a trailblazing icon of the Civil Rights Movement and one of the original 13 Freedom Riders. He carried with him the spirit of civil disobedience and dedication to dingity across our nation during his time in Congress.
As a student organizer myself, I looked to Lewis as a testament to the changes that dedicated youth engagement can yield. Lewis was unique in his ability to apply nonviolent organizing to legislative change during his 33 years in elected office – a major inspiration for our Dignity for All agenda. [[link removed]]

These are some of my favorite groundbreaking artists who demonstrate the beautiful call and response nature of improvisation, a model for our democracy at its best and theme of our campaign."
