Moments ago, in a historic moment for our movement, nearly half of the U.S. Senate voted to advance the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), a bill which would safeguard the legal right to abortion throughout the country.

We unfortunately fell short of the votes needed to move the bill forward. And while Senate Republicans’ disregard for our fundamental rights may be frustrating—especially as the anti-choice supermajority on the U.S. Supreme Court appears poised to overturn Roe v. Wade —I want to explain why this is an opportunity for hope and action.

In just 253 days, every member of the U.S. House, a third of the U.S. Senate, and hundreds of state offices will be up for reelection.
