Meaningful. Historic. Impactful. Brilliant.

Those are some of the words being used to describe the Biden/Harris administration’s decision to nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court – and, like you, we agree with all of them!

Judge Jackson is superbly qualified for this position. The daughter of parents who began their careers as public school teachers, Judge Jackson is widely viewed as one of our country’s brightest legal minds. She also shares lived experiences with most Americans and will be a justice who works to make our criminal justice system more fair.

Her confirmation will bring a welcome diversity of backgrounds to our highest court. She has served as a public defender, as well as an attorney in private practice, and a federal judge. If the Senate confirms her, Judge Jackson will be the 116th associate justice to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court – the first Black woman and the third Black justice in our entire history. Her confirmation would give our country’s highest court an unprecedented four women.

She has a demonstrated commitment to equal justice for all and to protecting the rights of all people, not just those who are wealthy and powerful. The Senate has confirmed Judge Jackson three times, always with bipartisan support.

We ask the Judiciary Committee to swiftly hold her hearing and advance her nomination.

We know you share our excitement in ending Black History Month with this historic nomination. It brings hope and joy at a time we all need it.
