John,

We’re at a crossroads in Montana. Just as we’re watching the deterioration of the rule of law in Washington, D.C., politicians in Montana are taking up the same tactics.

Statewide office holders think they’re above the law and can violate our constitution for political gain.

Many look the other way as special interests attack our constitutional values--like public education, a clean and healthy environment, and individual dignity.

We can do better

When Republican Secretary of State Corey Stapleton tried to rip up the Montana Constitution and ignore a Governor’s veto, Governor Bullock asked me to go to court to stop Stapleton. I did.

We won, and protected our constitution.

When Republican Attorney General Tim Fox caved to special interests and tried to
cripple the Habitat Montana law--which helps farm and ranch families, and provides access to public lands--Governor Bullock again asked me to go to court and stop him. I went.

Won won, and were able to save Habitat Montana and your public access.

As I look at the leading Republicans auditioning to be your next Attorney General, I worry that they’ll put so much more at stake: our public schools, our clean and healthy environment, the individual freedom to make choices about one’s own body.

I’ll say it again: we can do better.

In 2020, we can again elect a real advocate for Montana. We can have a leader who shares our Montana values in the Attorney General’s Office.

We can again have a government that respects the rule of law and the freedoms we value.

But we must work to elect an Attorney General who will
work for us.

This next election is about so much more than just the presidency. It’s about upholding our own state constitution and having a democracy that still works for the people of our state.

As your Attorney General, I will always defend our constitution and hold the powerful accountable to our laws.

Sincerely,

-Raph Graybill
