Dear John,

Our progress in the fight against climate change is under threat. Today, the Supreme Court heard from coal companies and their allies who want to put tight restrictions around EPA’s authority to regulate climate pollution. This case, West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is a sweeping attack on EPA’s authority to limit dangerous carbon pollution from the nation's power plants.

It’s a complex issue, but we’re here to help. We want to connect you with the tools and resources to understand what is at stake and how you can show your support for the EPA and its authority to protect public health and the environment.

West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency could have far-reaching climate and public health consequences. And If the justices decide in West Virginia’s favor, it could undermine the federal government’s ability to undertake such basic functions as ensuring the safety of food and drugs, protecting workers’ rights, or policing financial fraud.

Impeding EPA’s ability to act will put profits before people and stop us from protecting families and communities from the rising costs and mounting dangers of the climate crisis. We can’t let that happen. Together, we must show the Supreme Court that there is overwhelming public support for strong EPA action on climate pollution — and the first step is educating ourselves.
