Dear John,
The farmworker overtime bill is headed to a house today! Send an email to your lawmakers and ask them to vote yes on HB 4002 [[link removed]]!
HB 4002 would make sure Oregon farmworkers receive overtime pay, which they’ve been excluded from since 1938 due to a racist law. It’s time to right this historic wrong! Please ask your state senator and state representative to vote yes on HB 4002 when it goes to a vote.
In her testimony in favor of HB 4002, former farmworker Eustolia Dominguez told her story: “As a field worker I can say that the work is very heavy and requires a lot of patience and wisdom. I have five children whom I had to support by working in the fields…there were plenty of situations where I stretched every dollar to make it enough. I really did what I could with what I had, and I always knew that everything was always going to be limited- for example in food decisions I always went for the cheapest or the one that lasted longer. There was no room for luxuries even though they were really little things I wished for…I ask you to pass farmworker overtime after 40 hours because farmworkers need more support and their labor contribution should be recognized and honored. When making a decision, consider that all prices have gone up, the cost of living is very high, what farmworkers are earning is not enough to support their families.”
We’re nearing the finish line for this bill, and it’s only going to pass with your help. Please send a message today [[link removed]]!
Thank you,
