Earlier today, I emailed to let you know that we are in danger of coming up short in the online fundraising that powers the work you and Public Citizen do together.
I noted that at moments like this, we sometimes run into a situation where so many people assume enough other people will chip in that hardly anyone actually does — and that seems to be happening today.
We still need 341 people to contribute before midnight tonight.
Please donate right now if you can.
Your contribution will be MATCHED DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR — but only if it comes through in time.
Or sign up to be a Monthly Donor and your contribution will be matched dollar-for-dollar every month for an entire year!
Thank you for anything you can chip in today.
- Robert

Not sure if you saw the emails I sent you over the weekend.
I wanted to give you a “peek behind the curtain” you might not get from other nonprofit organizations.
- Every year, we find ourselves facing a shortfall at the end of February.
- And it’s not just that February is the shortest month of the year.
- It’s that we don’t see the uptick in online donations on February 28th (or 29th, in a leap year) that we see on the 30th or 31st of all the other months.
- I really don’t know why that is — other than maybe the shortened calendar kind of catches folks by surprise every February.
- But it happens year in and year out.
It boils down to this:
We need 394 people to donate by midnight tonight or we won’t close the gap.
If you can, please contribute today. Anything you chip in right now will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
Or sign up to be a Monthly Donor and your contribution will be matched dollar-for-dollar every month for an entire year!
Please don’t assume we’ll make it whether you donate or not — when we get down to the wire on days like this, so many people seem to figure enough other people will chip in that hardly anyone actually does.
Thank you for reading this, and thank you for everything you do as part of this shared project called Public Citizen.
- Robert Weissman, President of Public Citizen
P.S. If donating today is not right for you, that’s okay. I hope you’ll understand that I need to ask when we’re facing a shortfall like this so we have the resources to carry out all the essential work you and Public Citizen are doing together.
