Dear John,
On March 2 the DC City Council will hold a hearing on bills to expand paid leave and bereavement leave for DC workers.
We need our activists to contact the DC City Council and urge them to support these critical issues for working families.
The District Government Paid
Leave Enhancement Amendment Act of 2022, B-24-615,
would expand the District’s paid leave program for public employees to welcome
a new child or care for a seriously ill family member to 12 weeks. The bill
incorporates medical leave as part of the paid leave benefits program and
provides an additional 2 weeks of pre-natal leave.
The District Government Family Bereavement Leave Amendment Act of 2021, B24-53, would expand the existing bereavement leave program for DC government employees by providing an additional 10 days of leave for workers who suffer the loss of a child or a stillbirth.
AFGE supports this legislation to protect District workers and their families in this unprecedented time. Jennifer Hamilton with AFGE Local 2741 will be testifying on the importance of this bill to all District government employees.
