John, President Joe Biden’s nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first ever Black woman Supreme Court nominee — 55 years after Justice Thurgood Marshall became the first Black man appointed to the Court — is groundbreaking.

This is why we do this work. With less than 12 hours left in Black History Month, help us keep this work going so that it doesn’t take another 55 years to appoint a Black woman to the highest branch of the judiciary by making a $20 contribution.

For the first time in the Court’s history, millions of Black women and girls in this country will finally be able to see themselves and their lived experiences reflected back at them from the bench.

Our nation’s courts face a crisis of credibility. At the highest level, public approval of the U.S. Supreme Court is in freefall. An endless deluge of dark money from special interest groups continues to flood federal and state judiciaries. That is in part because the judiciary is not representative of the electorate they serve. Judges of color are still the exception here in Pennsylvania. This has to change. #CourtsMatter

Help us make that change. Black History Month is over at midnight tonight. We’ve got to expand the electorate because in expanding the electorate, more women of color, just like Judge Ketanji Jackson Brown, will be appointed to benches all over Pennsylvania. Representation matters. Your grassroots support means everything. Can we count on your grassroots support to help us reach our end-of-month goal on this important day? >>>>>

-------------------------------------------------------

The New Pennsylvania Project was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania’s electorate, so it reflects the Commonwealth’s demographically changing population. In the next four years, NPP will engage and empower young residents and those living in under-represented communities of color and immigrant communities. We will register them to vote, provide education about the issues that matter in their neighborhoods, and mobilize people to vote in every election.
