Hi everyone --

This has been a hard time as we all watch in horror the ongoing violence in Ukraine. Our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine.

We just wanted to send a quick note advising caution when sharing information about Russia and Ukraine. As an unprovoked and unjustified war ravages the country and pro-Kremlin actors weaponize disinformation, we urge everyone to be careful before amplifying breaking news from unknown sources.

Russian state-owned media outlets have already used Facebook and Twitter to promote false reports to justify their invasion of Ukraine. Unverified sources continue to gain traction on social media platforms.

Before you post, tweet, retweet, or share information on the evolving situation with your followers, family, or friends, please be careful to check your sources and question the validity of your information.

Bad actors are seizing this moment to muddy the waters and promote disinformation. As an organization, we have a responsibility to hold social media companies accountable for the spread of violent disinformation. As individuals, we also have a personal responsibility to think critically about what information we share.

Stay vigilant,

Nicole
