ICE is far from an American institution. In fact, many of you reading this email might be older than the agency. But in such a short time, ICE has already established a hellish reputation of cruelty and abuse.
Detainees in ICE facilities have suffered from COVID-19 outbreaks, unsanitary holding conditions, lack of treatment and care, and numerous other instances of medical malpractice.
Agencies like ICE and CBP were built with the intention of dehumanizing undocumented people and weaponizing cruel and unjust anti-immigration policy. They are working exactly as they were intended to, and so long as they continue to exist, our communities will never be free from the fear of detention and deportation.
The progress we’ve made to actualize a pathway to citizenship for all undocumented people pales in comparison to the trauma and abuses ICE continues to inflict on our communities.
United We Dream Action knows that a brighter, safer future for immigrants is one that’s free of ICE and CBP. So on the eve of ICE’s birthday, we couldn’t think of a better way for you to take a stand than by supporting our work to defund and abolish these agencies.
