Here are some of the things we’ve accomplished in the first two months of 2022: - We are representing North Carolina voters challenging insurrectionist Congressman Madison Cawthorn’s eligibility for re-election: Under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, Cawthorn’s efforts to facilitate the January 6th insurrection represent a direct attack on our democracy and violate his oath to “protect and uphold the Constitution.” Despite Cawthorn’s best efforts, the case against him remains strong.
- We are pushing to end foreign-influenced corporate spending in California elections: Earlier this month, California Assemblymember Alex Lee introduced the “Stop Foreign Influence in California Elections Act,” barring multinational corporations from contributing to candidates, parties, or committees (including super PACs) or from engaging in their own direct election spending. Assemblymember Lee’s bill is based on our model legislation, passed in Seattle in 2020 and under consideration in several other states.
- We relaunched our 14point3 campaign with Our Revolution: On the one-year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection, we announced our partnership with Our Revolution to relaunch the 14point3 campaign, urging Secretaries of State to bar current and former elected officials who engaged in the January 6th insurrection from appearing on any future ballot under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Our Revolution held rallies for the cause this month in California, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ohio.
