Hi John,
In a moment, I'm going to explain why it's so critical we reach our end-of-month fundraising deadline tonight so we can continue pushing for the change we need to protect Black lives. We've set a goal to raise $30,000 before midnight and right now we're 18% short — so we're relying on donations from emails like this one to reach our goal.
First, I want to make something clear: We're not slowing down.
Our movement for bold, progressive policies to address racial, economic, and environmental justice helped deliver the White House and Congress for Democrats. And no matter what establishment politicians or conservative Democrats like to say — we know that voters gave us a mandate to save lives and livelihoods.
That means a mandate to end police brutality and meaningfully address the disproportionate harm and violence Black and brown communities face as a result of entrenched white supremacy — not in twenty or thirty years, but NOW.
For decades, the status quo has told us to wait. But John, as the first Black woman elected to represent Missouri in Congress, as the first activist from the movement in defense of Black lives elected to Congress, as an organizer, a pastor, a nurse, and a mom, I know we cannot wait any longer.
Defunding the police isn't just a slogan or an ideal: It's a real solution to transform public safety, and I refuse to let the establishment write off our movement.
Our communities have the answers to the crises we're facing, they just need their government to have the courage to legislate with conviction to transform politics. From the streets of Ferguson to the halls of Congress, I've worked to move our country closer to true democracy and justice, but our work is far from over.
With far-right attacks, multiple opponents in our race for re-election, and our primary election only months away, the challenges we face are immense. But I know that when we work together, we have the power to move mountains.
Thank you for all of your support.
Your Congresswoman loves you,
Cori
