URGENT: UKRAINE EMERGENCY

Families are fleeing for their lives and need your help.

Rush your emergency gift now » [link removed]

John: The photos, videos and stories from this weekend are harrowing.

At least 100 civilians have been killed, more than 160,000 people have been displaced within Ukraine, and over 422,000 people have been forced to flee into neighboring countries.

Thousands more are still trying to get through jam-packed borders, often waiting in the freezing cold for hours with only minimal belongings. Most of them are women, children and the elderly.

One of the best ways you can help is by making an emergency donation to assist those in crisis right now. Can you make an emergency donation to help displaced families in Ukraine and around the world?

In Poland, which is preparing to receive up to 1 million refugees, the IRC is working to scale up our support and to provide for the basic needs of people fleeing the conflict. Our teams have connected with local partners and are preparing to respond by providing critical support to civilians forced to flee their homes.

In times of crisis, I ask myself what I can do to help — I know you do too, as someone who supports our work and cares so deeply about refugee families. Thank you for your compassion at this most urgent hour of need.

— Andrea, IRC

P.S. If you have a few minutes, don’t miss David Miliband's personal email to IRC supporters below.

And if you're able to give — any amount, small or large — our entire team would be very grateful for your emergency donation, which can help provide urgently-needed humanitarian aid to people in crisis in Ukraine and around the world.

Subject: I'm personally coming to you for help, John. A war is raging in Ukraine, and we must step up for the Ukrainian people.

John,

I don't often send you an email personally, but I'm reaching out today because this simply cannot wait. Russia's invasion of Ukraine risks displacement and humanitarian suffering on a scale not seen in Europe since WWII.

In this moment of unimaginable fear and suffering, we must step up and show the people of Ukraine that they are not alone. That people around the world — people like you, John — will not look away in their moment of need.

I can't stop thinking about the men, women, and children in Ukraine who are experiencing this nightmare firsthand. The hypothetical invasion discussed in news articles last week pales in the face of the all-out war we are seeing today.

Ukrainian cities are being bombed from the air, tanks are rolling down the streets, and families are desperately seeking safety in bomb shelters, subway stations, across borders, and anywhere else they can find it.

Right now, I am asking you to make an emergency donation to the IRC, to help families affected by conflict in Ukraine and other crisis zones worldwide. Over 100,000 people are already reported to be displaced internally within Ukraine and thousands more are fleeing over borders into Poland, Romania, Moldova and other European states.

The IRC is on the ground in neighboring Poland, preparing to respond when and where we are most needed. Our teams are assessing humanitarian needs, connecting with local partners, and mobilizing resources to provide critical support to civilians forced to flee their homes.

Please, John, send in your emergency donation right now to provide urgently-needed humanitarian aid to people in crisis in Ukraine and around the world.

John, I wouldn't be writing to you right now if the need wasn’t incredibly serious.

Already, because of this invasion, the world will bear witness to innocent deaths and massive displacement inside Ukraine and across Europe. The humanitarian implications could reach across Europe and around the globe.

We don't know what will happen next, but we know that families in Ukraine — and in crisis zones around the world — need humanitarian assistance today.

Thank you for standing with us and the people of Ukraine.

David Miliband
President and CEO
International Rescue Committee

P.S. Before this week even began, 850,000 people in Ukraine were internally displaced due to an ongoing 8-year-long war on the eastern border. If you are able, please send in your emergency donation today to help us reach displaced families with the life-changing resources they need.
