Dear COLAB Members,

The long road to the end of the permit process is finally here; ExxonMobil’s temporary trucking permit will be heard by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, March 8 at 9 AM. We could really use your help! We are asking our supporters to send in letters to the Board of Supervisors before March 7. You can easily send a letter here on our Safe Transport for SB website. Just fill out the form and feel free to make edits to the letter to make it more personal. It's even more important to join in person on March 8 to give public comment.

As many of you know, it’s been nearly 7 years since ExxonMobil had to shut in their Santa Ynez Unit (SYU) because of a pipeline incident that was no fault of theirs. The plan put forth and temporary trucking permit goes above and beyond safety standards for any truck on the road right now. This isn’t just about a temporary trucking permit though; this is about restarting SYU to bring back good-paying jobs to our county that we’ve lost. It’s also about millions of dollars in tax revenues lost over these many years that went to schools, public safety, and infrastructure. And, ultimately, restarting SYU would reduce greenhouse gasses by keeping oil produced here locally rather than getting it from countries via ocean tankers overseas.

Join us in support of restarting SYU with approval of the temporary trucking permit and send a letter to the Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors no later than March 7. You can email your comments directly to the Board email, [email protected], or go to the Safe Transport for Santa Barbara website and send a letter through their platform. You can also give public comments in person and via Zoom on March 8, which is always more impactful. More details on the hearing, including how to participate in person, will be sent closer to March 8.
Thank you,

Andy Caldwell
