Dear John,
Election season is in full swing! Tomorrow, Texans will go to the polls on the first primary Election Day of the 2022 midterms. We’re closely monitoring the election equipment being used across the state and tracking any technical issues that could impact voters. Curious how Texans cast their votes? We successfully advised Texas lawmakers on SB 598, legislation that establishes risk-limiting audit pilots (with full implementation by 2026) and phases out insecure paperless voting systems – called Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) systems – for polling place voters. We’re tracking the voting equipment upgrades that many jurisdictions in Texas have already made, upgrades that affect more than 4,000,000 registered voters in the state. Click on the timeline at the top of the Verifier to see which jurisdictions have new equipment:

Our work to collect data on voting equipment across the country is ongoing, and we’ll keep monitoring any technical issues that might arise throughout the 2022 primaries. To help us keep bringing you free, accurate, and inclusive data about our elections infrastructure, please consider a monthly contribution — or whatever you can give — today.
With thanks,
Megan Maier, Senior Research Associate
