It has been 503 days since Ross Spano lent the first installment of $174k to his campaign. It would later come out that this money was essentially laundered from a $186k loan he took from campaign supporters. He took it and lent it to his campaign in order to circumvent election disclosure requirements and federal caps placed on donations so that wealthy folks can't buy candidates - as happened here. (story)
It's gross and shameful; he's a crook and if justice is done he'll go to jail and be held accountable for his crimes. Nobody is above the law; not campaign henchmen, Presidents, or, in this case, members of Congress.
There is so much to unpack in this, but for now I just want to say thank you to our local reporters who never gave up on this story. Thank you to my supporters who stood by me and Kristen Carlson when tens of thousands dollars of dark money came pouring into our race and thank you to Republicans from across the aisle who joined in to say that this was wrong and that criminals must be held accountable.
The courts are doing their work and I'm asking you to do yours. I'm currently running against Ross's protégé and law-partner. We have to end this cycle of corruption once and for all, so I'm asking you to pitch in and join me in this fight.
