John,

Representation matters, particularly within political movement
organizations that are focused on advancing progressive, diverse leaders
and issues across the country.

That’s why 3 years ago, DFA brought in Yvette Simpson to be our CEO.

DFA understood then and now that the leadership of our country, from City
Hall to the White House, to our own organization, must reflect the life
experience and strategic vision of our nation's evolving demographics.

As DFA’s first Black woman CEO, Yvette Simpson has helped deepen and
expand our work to fight for equality, and our commitment to train, elect
and support progressive candidates of color running for office, at all
levels, in all 50 states.

Through Yvette's leadership, Democracy for America has continued to build
upon our powerful track record of identifying and training strong
grassroots leaders early while using people-power and partnerships to get
those candidates over the finish line.

Many of these candidates -- particularly women of color -- are told to be
patient or wait their turn.

At DFA, we think that progressive women of color understand the change we
need and have the experience to get it done now, not at some undetermined
date in the future.

This work is particularly important when there are no Black women in the
Senate, no Black women on the Supreme Court, and no Black women governors.

It’s clear that this Black History Month, the work that Yvette does is
absolutely critical because representation matters.

To meaningfully shift the balance of power away from the establishment and
conservatives to bold, progressive policies everywhere, we must do more
than just thank Black women for saving our democracy….we need to make sure
that when powerful progressive Black women run, progressives are there for
them.

making Black History by recruiting, training, and supporting amazing
progressive Black candidates--- candidates who we know will fight for
working people every day.

Our fight to make Black History includes continuing the hard work of
electing progressive Black women like Cheri Beasley: NC-Senate, Jasmine
Crockett: TX-30, Summer Lee: PA-18, Diedre DeJear: IA- Governor, and
Stacey Abrams: GA-Governor.

So far this year, DFA has endorsed 16 Black Women running for office at
all levels and each one of these incredible women has spent years on the
frontlines of some of the biggest fights, and each has delivered real
results for working people.

In 2020 Georgia proved once again what the data has been telling us for
years: Black women have been there for Democrats, year after year,
election after election.

Now, it’s up to us at DFA, working with our grassroots movement
nationwide, to make sure that when powerful progressive Black women run,
people are there to support them.

[ [link removed] ]Electing candidates like Cheri, Jasmine, Summer, Diedre, and Stacey
will take a significant amount of resources. Will you please rush a
contribution of $22 or more RIGHT NOW to provide the fuel we need to win?

Thanks for powering our work to elect these powerful, progressive Black
women.

With your support, we’ve won elections at the local, state, and federal
levels making real change for people across this country. Our strategy
works and we’re not stopping now.

Thank you for everything you’re doing to help us take it to the next level
in 2022!
