Hi there — I have a little bit of extra time in my schedule today, so I wanted to take a few moments to share something with you.

When I announced my first campaign for Congress in 1997, no one thought I could win.

Heck, even one of my staffers pulled me aside and said, “Well Tammy, maybe you want to rethink what you’re doing because it’s going to be tough.”

I looked her right in the eye and asked, “Do you think I should wait my turn?”

The next thing I said was this: I believe that women have to run — especially when it’s hard — and not wait our turn. We can’t wait until we get a tap on our shoulder or we’ll never get anywhere.

I ended up winning that race and became the very first woman elected to the House of Representatives from Wisconsin. And that wouldn’t be the last time this team would make history.

When I ran for U.S. Senate in 2012, folks like you fought alongside me — even when others wrote us off again and told us it was impossible. You helped me make history again as the first woman elected to the chamber from our state, and as the first openly gay Senator in our nation’s history.

Time and again, grassroots supporters like you have defied the odds. And the battle to flip Wisconsin’s other Senate seat and protect our Democratic majority this November will be no different. Republicans have raised record-breaking numbers to reclaim the majority this year and stop our progress, and many political pundits think they’ve got a great shot.

It will require all of us working together to defy the odds once more because they’ve already counted us down and out — but I know what this grassroots team is capable of, and together, I know we have what it takes to prove them wrong.

So, I’m reaching out to you today to ask that you double down on your commitment to our work to flip Wisconsin all the way blue and continue fighting for progress in Washington. You can pitch in to help us hit our end-of-month goal right here:

Over the years, our team has weathered just about every storm — from outside groups spending millions against us to nasty attacks — only to get back up and keep fighting.

Together, I know we have what it takes to do it again this November.

Thanks for your support.

— Tammy
