Yesterday, just before the news broke of the school shooting at Saugus High School, Senator Chris Murphy called on his GOP colleagues to take action on the background check bill the House passed 261 days ago.
His request was immediately blocked by Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.
She said that the bill shouldn't be "fast tracked" and used the excuse that it might stop her from lending a hunting rifle to a grandson.
Her claim that this bill is being "fast tracked" is completely false -- it's been sitting on Mitch McConnell's desk for 261 days.
If Republicans continue to refuse to act, then we must make our voices louder than ever. Which is why we need your help to ramp up our pressure on Mitch McConnell now.
Can you make a $3 donation to Giffords today? Every dollar you donate will go towards our efforts to pressure Mitch McConnell to hold a debate and vote on universal background checks in the Senate.

Senate Republicans need to wake up and decide if their gun lobby checks are worth more than the safety of our communities.
And if they refuse to take action to make our communities safer from gun violence, then we must elect a Congress who will.
Any support you can give today will help us pressure these Senators to act, or elect new ones that will.
So if you can, please consider making a donation of any amount today >> [link removed]
