Dear John, Speaker Pelosi here, reaching out about an important matter: We were already REALLY worried about retirements, but now I’m quite worried that even more Democrats will retire, making our battle to protect the House Majority that much harder.
And it gets worse: GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy is GLOATING that all these Democratic retirements could signal a Republican takeover. Worst of all, he could be right!
Democrats need to work extra hard to make up for these seats, so I’m reaching out personally to see if you can rush a donation to House Majority PAC to help protect our Democratic Majority.

There’s no sugarcoating it: Democrats are on track to lose the House. Republican fundraising is through the roof, redistricting is going to cause some Democratic districts to disappear, and signs point to it being “nearly impossible for Democrats to retain the House” as some news outlets have said.
It’s so bad that Democrats are retiring in the face of the odds, which is making it harder for us to keep the House. Luckily, we have time to turn it around, but we cannot afford to lose another single day.

The GOP is giddy at the retirement news because they know it makes their goal of taking back the house so much easier. Just look at what NRCC chair Tom Emmer said:

I know it may sound impossible right now, but I know that if we come together, Democrats will prevail – we will save the Majority.
