It is with great joy and excitement that we greet the nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court. Judge Jackson has a deep and demonstrated commitment to civil rights and justice for all. As a former public defender, she brings to the Supreme Court the perspective of someone who has seen the justice system through the eyes of our society’s most vulnerable.
Her lived experience as a Black woman enriches her perspective about daily life in the United States and how the legal system affects people’s rights -- a perspective that is greatly needed on our highest court. Celebrating Black History Month
The history of Black people in this country is a story not just of oppression—but of overcoming. It is a story of both savage injustice and inequality and hard-won progress. It is a story of discrimination and spectacular accomplishment.
In this Black History Month, we have taken another step forward with the nomination of our next Supreme Court justice, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Later this year we will celebrate her confirmation. And history will be made again.

The Supreme Court is poised to consider cases that could directly impact so many of our day-to-day lives. The new justice will not change the balance of the far-right 6-3 Court. But as the late Justice Byron White reportedly put it, with each new justice, there’s a new Supreme Court.
The stakes are high – and we need to work together. It’s time to make our support for the first Black woman justice on the Court loud and clear. Understanding what’s at stake as the Court threatens to block a progressive agenda and harm our rights is crucial.

RNC Makes Dangerous Bow to Trump’s Insurrectionists
The Republican National Committee (RNC) is officially letting Americans know that it is more committed to former President Donald Trump than to democracy, the rule of law, and the truth. Calling the January 6 Insurrection “legitimate political discourse” demonstrates how few far-right elected officials are willing to stand up to Trump and his supporters, even when they are promoting harmful lies and conspiracy theories.
Meanwhile, far-right politicians are telling us what they’ll do if they get congressional majorities in this year’s elections: They will use their power to promote conspiracy theories about the elections and the COVID-19 pandemic and target their political opponents. It’s an election year. We have been warned.

Why We Need the National Popular Vote
The concept of “one person, one vote” is at the heart of our democracy. But our current Electoral College system doesn’t work that way in presidential elections. In two of our last six elections, the person who won the most votes did not become president.
The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact will help fix this. It doesn’t do away with the Electoral College. But it would change the current laws, allowing states to agree to award all of their Electoral Votes to the winner of the nationwide popular vote to ensure that whoever becomes president actually won more votes overall. It’s critical that we ensure its passage as quickly as possible.
