In our everyday lives, we use maps to get to where we want to go - but, when we put in the wrong destination, we use bad directions.
That’s our current redistricting process, in a nutshell.
This week, I traveled back to the General Assembly to vote on fixing yet another set of unconstitutional congressional district maps. Instead of creating a fair map with as many competitive seats as possible, we once again got districts that are stacked by party.
Our destination needs to change.
When I first ran for the NC House, I ran in a competitive seat held by the Republicans. We flipped that seat from red to blue - and I’m the only candidate in the Lt. Governor’s race who has beaten the Republicans in a tough race.
That’s why I’ve consistently supported independent redistricting reform - and, as your Lt. Governor, I will use my tie-breaking vote to support fair maps.
