Dear friends,
My heart is heavy today as we once again receive news of escalating violence in Ukraine.
I stand with the people of Ukraine. The Ukrainian people have a right to decide their own political future – and they have chosen democracy. To protect this burgeoning democracy and the civilians experiencing this attack in real time, we must build on the already enacted sanctions so that Russia faces consequences for this assault on a peaceful democratic nation.
I also strongly condemn the actions of Vladimir Putin. Putin’s unlawful invasion of Ukraine makes clear Russia doesn’t belong on the UN Security Council, a body meant to maintain order and keep the international community safe. Russia clearly has no interest in that, and Putin forfeited his right to a seat the moment he invaded Ukraine. Putin is an anti-democratic, power hungry authoritarian, and he should be treated accordingly.
In this time of uncertainty, it is in our nature as Americans to find ways to help. You can find suggestions on how to help the people of Ukraine here. [[link removed]]
Thank you.
